Columbia Island

C&R Civic started construction on the Columbia Island project in the summer of 2012. The island was the site for 400' transmitting tower with a production studio as the base of the tower. By 2012 the tower had fallen into Long Island sound and the building was a derelict and open to weather. A retired physician bought it and hired us to turn it into a residence. C&R Civic was responsible for the marine aspects of the project as well as it's construction. The house would be completely off grid with it’s own solar power electricity. We built a water desalination plant for fresh water. We started by building a barge that could transport a tractor trailer load of construction material. The seawall surrounding the house was crumbling, sections needed to be replaced. We built a dock for access. Marble bathrooms, a commercial grade stainless kitchen, polished concrete floors and much more all came out of our shop. The first picture in this collection is of the island before we started work.
